A Dark Knight Shines on Second Blush
To be honest, this is the second stick of this vitola that I smoked. Both came as a gift from General Cigar as part of their ambassador program aorund Thanksgiving. And, the first was not anything to write home about. Others who got this package also felt the smae way. But, tonight, I decided to give it another shot. And, I was pleasantly surprised. Perhaps a few months in the humidor did it some good.
Upon first inspection this looks like a nice dark oily cigar. The stick seems well packed and constructed. It lit easily and drew well. The cigar provided lots of nice smelling smoke. Before lighting it had an aroma of earthy sweetness.
I was expecting a full bodied cigar and while this had some notes of pepper it wasn’t overpowering. There were also notes of chocolate as well. As the smoke dwindled to its last third the spiciness became more prevalent, but still didn’t dominate the nice taste.
While appearing well made the cigar did burn unevenly and had to be relit. This did not detract from the enjoyment.
At around $5.50 it is reasonable priced and a decent cigar. I’m glad I chose to give this a second chance as it showed much better after some short aging. I guess that there may be a lesson to be learned: If you aren’t sure about a cigar, set some aside and come back to try it again after a few months.
