The Griffins Maduro

The GriffinsHaving previously tried the natural version of this cigar I was interested in giving the maduro a shot to see if there were any differences.  There definitely was.

Upon first glance you notice a rich deep brown seemingly flawless cigar.  The Connecticut broadleaf wrapper has a silky feel and is almost without veins.  It clips and lights easily.  It took a few minutes for the draw to open.  But after a couple of puffs, it produced a nice volume of smoke.

Flavors are woodsy and pungent for the first third.  There is an undertone of pepper and spice which, for me, lasted through the entire smoke.  As the cigar came to the midpoint, I had a touch of sweetness.  I wondered if there was a different leaf in the filler, but the information that is provided merely states the filler to be Dominican.  Many consider The Griffins to be a milder cigar, but I thought this was on the heavy side of medium.  It is a late afternoon cigar.

The cigar is indeed well made.  This smoke is made by Davidoff. They are noted for high quality and this is no exception.  The stick held a nice edge and a long light grey ash.

At just under $10. this is a pircey smoke.  And, as such, it is marked down in the value category.  That doesn’t mean that it’s not worthy of your consideration.  It is, in fact a fine, well made medium to full bodied cigar.
