J Alexander III Corojo – Almost a Winner
This is the third year for J Alexander III cigars and the Corojo blend launched at the 2015 IPCPR, called JA3 Corojo, is quite good. J Alexander cigars are made by the well-known Quesada Cigars in the Dominican Republic. A JA3 toro (5 X 52) was provided to me by J Alexander III cigars for review.
The JA3 Corojo was an attractive cigar sporting a classic pigtail cap and closed foot (to inject more of the spicy Corojo flavor for the early draws). The bands were well done including one protecting the foot. The JA3 uses Dominican Criollo and Nicaraguan fillers within a Dominican binder, all wrapped by a Dominican Corojo.
I did not have difficulty toasting the cigar with the closed foot and the early draws were well spiced. There was also a strong earthy and pepper flavor with cedar overtones. Sweetness faded in and out and some bitterness surfaced near the end. The burn line was very even with a well formed ash, the draw was about average and the smoke volume was good. The flavor strength peaked during the final third. I enjoyed an hour and 25 minutes smoking the medium bodied JA3 Corojo and found its appearance, flavor and construction above average. The SRP of $8.50 is almost on the mark, which is why I consider it to almost be a winner. I rate the Corojo a 3.5 out of 5.
