Rodrigo’s G 6
A Big Boutique Blend Cigar
We have recently reviewed a couple of Rodrigo’s cigars (Lancer and Cinco 5) and now add his Boutique Blend to the list. George Rodriguez began Rodrigo Cigars a short time ago in the Dominican Republic where he linked up with William Ventura, past master blender for Davidoff. All Rodrigo cigars are made in Tamboril, a municipality of Santiago in the Dominican Republic.
Rodrigo’s Boutique Blend is aimed at the large ring gauge market and comes in 3 sizes – “G-4” (6.25 X 54), “G-5” (5.5 X 56) and “G-6” (6 X 60). I was given a G-6 at the 2013 IPCPR for review. This cigar has an Ecuadorian Habano Dark wrapper and Dominican binder and filler, all of which are top grade tobaccos. The wrapper was a nice dark shade with a slightly oily sheen although there was some separation of the wrapper near the middle. It had a fair construction with no soft spots and lit easily.
The draw was average and there was a mild leather aftertaste. Smoke output was above average and the flavor started as spice/cedar but this changed into a strong nutty taste with some sweetness in the background. The flavors increased as the stick got smaller. It took an hour and 25 minutes to smoke this medium to full bodied cigar. The SRP is $8.25 but I found it on line for $6.75. I give this cigar an overall score of 3.5 out of 5.
