Threesome – A Triple Treat

I’ve seen plenty of unusual cigars.  And I’ve seen plenty of gimmicky cigars as well.  This is unusually gimmicky.  What do you say about a cigar that is really three cigars in one?  And, not a culebra?  I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I unwrapped this beauty. The cigar makers say that it is really three cigars.  Each with a different blend and flavor profile, and I wasn’t sure what to make of that.  So, I lit up.

Every time I looked at this stick in the humidor I thought that it had a cedar wrapper.  But, in fact that was the bottom third of the cigar.  It clipped and lit without any problems and produced a nice volume of sweet smelling smoke.

The construction of this cigar is strange and I’m not sure exactly how they hold the whole thing together, but somehow they do.  The first two thirds of the cigar, the Connecticut wrapper, and the Habano wrapper burned perfectly.  The cigar held its ash for the entire first third, and then it fell off cleanly into the ashtray.  Remarkably, the second third, the Habano wrapper, was the same excellent construction.  Sadly, the final third burned unevenly and didn’t hold an ash at all.

The flavor was most unusual.  During the Connecticut portion, you would have sworn that you were smoking a nice mild breakfast cigar.  It was cool and somewhat bland, presenting a leathery taste.  The second third, or Habano wrapper picked up the intensity of flavor showing a heavier flavor of grassy straw with hints of pepper.  The final third, was indeed very spicy with lots of hot pepper and chili flavors.  It’s sort of funny, but you can smoke this cigar until your level of discomfort.  Perhaps it can be used to gauge a smokers fondness to strength of smoke.

At around $6 there is a lot of cigar for your money.  And, even if you aren’t able to smoke the whole threesome you are certainly getting an entire band for a great price.  Unfortunately, while I would have liked to score this higher, the roughness of the last third prevented me from declaring this a spectacular smoke.  But, I would heatrily recommend this cigar
