1875 Romeo Y Julieta – Good, But With a Complicated Pedigree

1875

Romeo and Juliet – would be lovers kept apart by differences between their families. The Romeo Y Julieta brand name/global market is no different. The non-US version is Cuban produced and sold outside the US by Habanos SA. Altadis produces the US version in the Honduras. Another complication is that Altadis also sells different Romeo Y Julieta cigars where the 1875 is after the name of Julieta. This review is of the blend that has 1875 before the name of Romeo – a little complicated, just like love.

At the 2014 IPCPR Altadis released the 1875 Romeo Y Julieta blend which has an aged Dominican Piloto binder and Dominican Piloto/Olor filler wrapped by an Indonesian shade tobacco. Altadis provided me with a 6 X 50 Tres at the IPCPR.

The Tres is an average looking cigar with a firm feel and pleasant aroma. There wasn’t any sweetness and the dominant flavor was pepper, along with oak and an undercurrent of cocoa. The flavor was constant throughout although the strength of the cigar increased around the middle. The ash kept a nice form and was a uniform grey. The volume of smoke was above average as was the construction. This medium bodied cigar is announced to be sold through brick and mortar stores only and I could not find it sold anywhere on the internet. It took me an hour and 10 minutes to smoke. The SRP is $6.50, about right for the value delivered. I rate the Tres a 3.5 out of 5.
