Pedro Martin Fiera

Pedro Martin FieraHow do you make a good cigar?  Well, it takes patience and practice.  I guess seventy years is enough of both.  Martin Family Cigars is the culmination of over seventy years of experience, Pedro Martin, combines with a youthful passion, Maria Martin.  This father and daughter team combines to bring an excellent cigar to market.  Father Pedro passed away a couple of years ago, but daughter Maria is firmly entrenched in the business, having worked at Comacho before.  I am always skeptical when I try a new cigar, but with this background I was expecting a lot.

I frequently enjoy a cigar while I am driving, and this was one of those cigars.  The drive to Miami takes less than two hours so I can chose a nice cigar.  When I first examined the cigar, it shows a nice medium to darker brown wrapper. It was oily and smooth.  I punched and lit it without problems.

The cigar was well made.  It burned evenly and required no touch ups, which is unusual when I drive.  It kept a firm ash that was white with specks of grey.

The beauty of this cigar is in its flavor.  The flavor is quite complex.  That may be due to the fact that they use a double binder of criollo and maduro Nicaraguan tobacco.  This makes for a flavorful sweet and hearty cigar.  While the Pedro Martin people say its not for the feint of heart, I think it is a medium to gently full bodied cigar.  The profile was predominantly heavy which makes me think of this as a great after dinner cigar.

At just under $9 you get a lot of cigar for your money.  I smoked for well over an hour and enjoyed every puff.  Maria Martin says the word Fiera comes from the spanish word of Fierce.  Not being afraid of smoking today we are all Fierce warriors was the thought process behind the name.  So, I say, “fierce warriors, light up!’
