Head Hunter
I reached into my humidor one day and came out with a nice looking Belicoso. This cigar, with a light wrapper and a firm feel, seemed to call out to me. Unfortunately when I went to do some reasearch I was unable to turn up anything useful. Repeated calls to the maker, MJ Frias, went unanswered. This doesn’t make this any less a good cigar, it just makes it hard to find.
I clipped the cigar and lit it without problems and it produced a nice light smoke. The cigar is a presence due to its large size and distinctive shape. The band was non-traditional but nice.
The cigar had a few flaws in construction. While the draw was open, it burned unevenly. More than once it needed to be retouched. The ash didn’t hold well and fell repeatedly before I was ready for it.
Despite its flaw this cigar has a nice flavor. It started off creamy and mild and progressed to a more medium bodied smoke. The second third had notes of cedar and leather and finally, towards the end some pepper and spice. While the cigar burned cool for its entire smoke, the cigar definitely felt heavier at the end.
It’s difficult to rate a cigar when you don’t have much information. And, I was unable to find anyone selling these sticks. Nevertheless, if you happen to find them at a reasonable price, it’s not a bad cigar.
