Torano Exodus 59 Torpedo
I first tried one of these cigars at a Big Smoke many years ago. The cigar was a gift from Charlie Torano who wanted me to guess the retail price after I had smoked it. Needless to day, I guessed way high. This particular cigar came from a box purchased at a local retailer. The cigars were all in good shape and some of that was thanks to the Boveda humidifying pack that comes in every box.
At first look, this cigar is dark and oily with lots of promise. Its color foretells a rich and robust smoke which the cigar delivers. While some have reported that the cigar burns unevenly at first, I had no problems. It lit well and held a sharp edge throughout. The ash fell much earlier than I had expected, but I think this was more due to the smoking conditions.
The flavors stared off slow, but quickly intensified. Creaminess gave way to deep chocolate. About halfway through the smoke I detected a brief burnt taste, but the chocolate returned soon and continued throughout the smoke. This is a heavy cigar loaded with the chocolate and later a spicy or even orange chocolate taste. It picks up richness and intensity but never overwhelms the palate.
I rarely smoke down to my fingers, but I was enjoying this stick so much that all of sudden I realized I was done. My first thought was can I have another?
As you can tell I like this cigar. But perhaps the thing that moves it to a special position in my humidor is the value. There are lots of decent $4.00 cigars. There are even a few good $4.00 cigars. This is a great $12.00 cigar with a $4.00 price tag. Not only will you enjoy the smoke, but your wallet will too.
