Blue Mountain Pigtail – Surprisingly Good
There are so many cigar companies producing quality sticks these days. In fact so many that you haven’t heard of half of them. And, neither have I. Every day I discover another small gem, many of which eventually grace these pages. It’s a great journey of discovery with the reward being some delicious cigars. Today’s cigar is from Blue Mountain Cigar Company. The are from Jamaica but learned cigar making in Cuba and now work in Nicaragua. The cigars are rolled in Esteli from tobacco grown in both Honduras and Nicaragua. Some time ago, I sampled their ‘Threesome‘ and found it to be a nice interesting smoke.
This cigar presented contradictions from the go. It seemed rather plain and simple yet it had a beautiful pigtail atop its head. The wrapper was veiny and the cigar firm. I clipped the pigtail and lit the stick without any problems.
The construction of the cigar was a high point. The draw was open and easy. It burned very evenly holding a tight edge. The ash was very good, each growing to almost two inches. I smoked the entire cigar with only three ashes.
This cigar was a surprise. I didn’t really expect much and it was good. It was a nice simple smoke with mild to medium flavors. I would rate the cigar as a very light ‘lunch’ cigar. The first flavors were of grass and straw. As the stick progressed I got some cedar and leather notes. But, for the most part the flavors were pretty steady throughout the smoke.
These cigars are available at an aggressive price making them a good value. And they fill a nice spot in your humidor. This is a nice light mid-morning smoke that will occupy about 50 minutes of mindless smoking time. Enjoy!
