King of the Hill

Recently, I was in Las Vegas.  And I won, or rather I din’t lose.  I actually never gambled, but rather took a sure thing.  I was there for the TPE show which is a minor tobacco show that has a few cigar vendors.  Mostly, I spent the few hours that I roamed through the hall chatting with old friends, but I also met some new people.  Kings Cigars were there in force.  And, they were very receptive to what we are doing here at CigarMayven.com.  They also had some nice cigars.  I chose a large cigar, what they call their King of Kings.  It is enormous at a whopping 7″ x 60.  Recently, I had an afternoon to myself and lit it up.

This dark beauty presented fairly well.  It is wrapped in cedar, a flavor which comes through in the smoke.  It was veiny and oily with an almost black wrapper.  It punched and lit without a problem.

Before I light a cigar I always feel the body to see if it is evenly packed.  Is it tight?  Or, perhaps, loose and soft?  Is the fill even?  These are all part of my ritual when examining a stick.  And, I do it subconsciously.  If it passes, I may not even remember having done the test.  My notes for this stick have a couple of question marks, but subsequently no problems presented themselves.

The construction was good.  The draw was easy and open and the edge burned evenly for the length of the smoke.

Flavor is good, but not interesting.  I got some grassy notes when I first lit up along with leather and cedar.  As the cigar progressed it was more spice and pepper.  That flavor remained consistent to the end of the cigar.  The cigar burned cool but had a heavy and long after taste.  This is definitely a full bodied or ‘dinner’ cigar, not for the faint of heart.

As hard as I tried I couldn’t find any pricing for these cigars so it’s hard to tell the value.  But, unless it is very expensive, you’ll get over an hour of full and rich smoke for your money.  Enjoy.
