Habano 601
It seems as though this week has seen me smoke a number of puros. Today is no different, this one form Nicaragua. Don Pepin Garcia has put together a typical Nicaraguan blend for this heavy cigar.
When I first examined the cigar it had a nice aroma, woody and sweet. I thought that might be from the dark oily Habano wrapper. The foot of the cigar seemed to be poorly cut. It was as though it had slipped when it was finished and cut at an angle. I looked at several angles and found no blemish just a slightly funny cut. The best part of this was after lighting, I never noticed this problem again.
Lighting was easy and the draw was fine. Right off the bat I got a big flavor, mostly pepper and spice. After a few minutes the tobacco blended well and the flavor, while still spicy, was less peppery.
Fifteen minutes into this cigar it hadn’t really changed. The flavor remained consistent throughout the smoke. It burned evenly and held a nice ash and never had to be relit.
At this price it is a reasonable value for about an hour of peaceful smoking. If you are looking for something complex, you won’t find it here. Instead you’ll find steady, consistent, flavorful smoke that doesn’t take a lot of concentration to enjoy.
If you are looking for a cigar to smoke while doing some chores, this might be it. It is a good priced and perfectly reasonable stick.
