Nat Sherman – Timeless Indeed

When Nat Sherman opened his doors in Manhattan in 1930 very few of us were born.  So, for longer that we can remember the name Nat Sherman has been associated with premium cigars and a good life.  So, it was with great pleasure that I ran into Michael Herklots at a recent tobacco show I was delighted to talk about their new offerings.  The company has recently released two lines named Timeless.  The first line hails from the Dominican Republic and is  a medium strength collection of six interesting shapes.  Our cigar comes from the Nicaraguan collection of Timeless.  These sticks are available in three sizes, each box pressed.

When I first looked at the cigar I was impressed.  First, the shape is interesting.  It almost mirrors the band and has a very Art Deco feel to it.  It is box pressed, but most of the cigars that I’ve seen box pressed seem square.  Thsi one was decidedly rectangular.  And, it was a large stately looking cigar with a veiny dark wrapper.  I punched and lit the stick.  It produced voluminous smoke.

The construction of this cigar is excellent.  It drew well with a nice open feel.  The ash was square, long, and medium to dark grey.  It burned evenly for well over an hour and held a tight edge.

Flavors of this stick are nice and interesting.  The first third of the stick was coffee and cream.  I really expected something much more full given that this is a Nicaraguan puro, but the wonderful flavors were nice mellow and creamy throughout.  As I moved to the second third of the smoke I was getting chocolate to go with my coffee cream.  Smoking this cigar was like eating a bowl of frosting without the calories.  In the final third there were hints of spice like cinnamon.  Overall, a nice flavor profile.

Unless you need to have your head blown off by your cigar this is a spectacular smoke.  I didn’t want this cigar to end.  At less than $9.00 it is a reasonable price for such a great smoke and I see lots of value.  If you need to impress someone with what you smoke share one of these with him.  Otherwise, keep them to yourself.
