Father and Son, A Wonderful Candy Stripe
Good things come with experience. And good things come from passion. When you combine experience and passion you get Father and Son cigars. Rolando Reyes, Sr. inspired his son for a lifetime. Since he has passed, Rolando Reyes, Jr. continues the tradition. Father and Son cigars is the culmination of the experience of Senior and the ongoing passion and enthusiasm of Junior. All brought to us for our enjoyment. The cigar that I am smoking today is the candy stripe. It is a nice parejo made with both a light and dark wrapper.
When you first look at the cigar you can’t help but be impressed. It is a great looking stick. Wrapped alternately with a light and dark wrapper, it is a barber pole appearance. I punched and lit the cigar without problem. Of note, is that the cigar bears no band to detract from its stripes.
The draw of the smoke was nice and open. It held a long ash. It burned clean and cool without a bad aftertaste. The edge of the cigar was even and tight. All in all, a very well constructed stick.
Flavor was fine. The cigar started off mild and mellow at first and grew stronger with time. But, it never reached a state of robust or overpowering. First flavors were earthy with hints of cedar and leather. Those notes continued through the majority of the smoke only falling away to mild pepper towards the end of the smoke. I would classify this cigar as a medium bodied or ‘lunch’ cigar.
These sticks are hard to find and pricing was just as hard. So, it’s difficult to put a value to them. Nevertheless, I liked this stick and found it to a very pleasant smoke. If you can find it in the sub $8 range, it would be a nice buy.
