Macanudo 1968 – A Very Good Year

Macanudo 1968This is an interesting cigar.  First there are many different tobaccos that make the blend, including some from Ometepe, the remote Nicaraguan island with rich volcanic soil.  Secondly, the tobacco is aged in tercios, the burlap bags used to transport the tobacco bales and then placed in charcoaled wooden barrels.  This also add flavor that enhances the cigar.  Perhaps all of these steps explain the price.

Upon inspection the cigar presents a nice dark oily wrapper. It punched easily and lit well.

For the first two thirds of the cigar it seemed to be mellow without a lot of inteerst but at the two thirds mark it got much more complex.  There were wood  notes and a taste of caramel.  There was no after taste or bitterness.

The cigar was well constructed and burned evenly with a nice ash.

I like this stick but found it a bit expensive at the $8.50 price point.
