The Griffins – An Interesting Surprise

The Griffins PyramideIt’s been years since I’ve had a cigar by The Griffins.  Usually, I consider them to be to mild for my taste.  This particular cigar was given to me at a show, and with an early morning drive, it seemed like a good choice for a ‘breakfast’ cigar.

Upon first inspection this cigar really looks nice.  It has a great natural Connecticut wrapper and just looks like what a cigar should be.  I clipped the end and lit the cigar.  The first few puffs drew well and had no bitterness.

I was expecting pretty mild flavor, but instead I got something that was heavier.  It seemed to me like a cafe latte in taste, you know that sort of foamy creamy richness.  The flavor didn’t change much at all through the entire stick and I found it a bit boring.

This is an extremely well constructed cigar.  The stick holds a beautiful, light gray, crisp ash to almost 2 inches without falling.  I wasn’t trying to set a record ash, but rather was driving and not paying attention.  At one point I looked down at the smoke and was surprised.  This cigar is made by Davidoff and they have a well earned reputation for making quality cigars.  This is no exception.

At about $10 per stick this is an expensive cigar.  It’s a good cigar but not something I would expect most to smoke everyday.  If money is not an issue and you are looking for something just a little stronger than mild, I’d give this a try.
