Did you know there is a cigar finder app available for Android and iPhones? They just came out with an update for the Android platform. The app, lists places to smoke and buy sticks all over the world. I downloaded the app and while it doesn’t have every shop and bar, it certainly has some. Definitely, worth having.
Sad News
Legendary boxing writer and all around bon vivant, Bert Sugar passed away last weekend. He was 75. Sugar, was never photographed without a cigar. People will remember Sugar as a great raconteur and all around good guy.
Long time Ashton Cigar and Holt’s employee, Manny Ferrero passed away suddenly last week. Ferrero, a Philadelphia cop, got into the cigar business working at Holts over 30 years ago. He rose up to hold the position of Senior VP for Ashton. He was liked by all and remembered fondly by many who he met while doing Ashton events all over the country.
Do You Want to Go To Havana?
Recently there was an article in the Daytona, FL newspaper indicating a company that was legally running cultural trips to Cuba. While it is still difficult to get there on your own, it is illegal to spend US currency in Cuba, if the government is allowing cultural trips, how far can cigar tours be?
New Cigars
J.C. Newman, makers of the Diamond Crown and Maximus lines have announce line extensions. The Diamond Crown gets Torpedo No. 8 which will be a 5 inch by 58 belicoso. Maximus gets the No 6 Double Robusto which will be 5 by 56.
I just received a couple of line extensions from General in the Macanudo brand. They have added a 6 inch by 60 ring to both the Macanudo Maduro and the Cafe line. I expect to be trying those soon and assume they will reflect their brands with a little larger size.
