Oliva V – Another Victory for Oliva Cigars
Often times when you have prolific producers you tend to overlook the commitment required to consistently produce good quality. Oliva makes many different cigars and there is not a bad one in the lot. That requires an attention to detail that insures consistency.
I was smoking a Double Robusto which I guess they call double because of a little larger ring than a traditional 48 or 50. It loooks really nice with a dark brown wrapper and firm toothy finish. Mine clipped easily and lit without problem. The first few puffs were just a preview of the chocolate that was to come.
Smoking a well made cigar is evidenced by an nice even burn and a long ash. This cigar could have won a contest as I grew an ash that was almost three inches before losing it.
Flavor for the first two thirds of the cigar was a dark chocolate, rich but not sweet. There was also a hint of coffe underlying the chocolate. As I progressed a spicy note appeared and remained throughout the last third of the stick.
At around $6.00 this hits a nice price point. It’s a cigar that will serve your humidor well if you are looking for a nice short more fuller bodied, but not too harsh, cigar.
