A “Beest” From Blue Mountain Cigars
Marvin Wright’s Blue Mountain Cigars has several brands and he has continuously introduced new blends since he began in 1995. At the 2014 IPCPR Marvin provided me with El Beest to review. This cigar is made in Esteli, Nicaragua with Nicaraguan filler and binder, wrapped in a Habano criollo tobacco.
My “Beest” was 5 X 52 with a dark Maduro colored wrapper. The pig tail on the cap was unusually large and the band appropriately had a picture of some nameless beast. The cigar was firm with no hard spots. The pre-light aroma was earthy and the draw was open. Smoke volume was very good and the initial flavor was spice. The wrapper delivered some sweetness but the spice was joined by pepper and cedar which remained to the end. The ash was average and the burn line was fairly even, no relights required.
It took an hour to smoke this full bodied cigar which has an SRP of $6.50. I found it online for $5.50 when you buy a box of 24. This is a reasonable price for the product delivered, a Nicaraguan puro, but I have enjoyed other Blue Mountain cigars more. I rate El Beest a 3.5 out of 5.
