A Tip of the Cap to the Royal Commodore Jamaica
Blue Mountain Cigars makes a lot of very interesting and unusual cigars. Thy make a trio which has 3 different wrappers, which we like a lot. They also make some very interesting shapes, including a cigar that is shaped like a football and wrapped to look like one right down to the laces. So, I was surprised when I tried gthis gem from Jamaica. A great cigar but much more traditional that what I was used to from this producer. Often times when a company or person stands out with the unusual it is to mask their inability to excel at teh ordinary. This smoke proves that not to be the case. BMc has hit it out of the park with the beautiful Commodore.
This enormous Commodore is justifiably huge, and still I wanted more. At 6 x 60 there is plenty to enjoy. I punched an lit my cigar without trouble. Before the punch, I liked the nice pigtail at the head. Many people use a straight cutter with a pigtail, but If I have a punch that will completely encircle the pigtail, that’s my preference. This cigar felt a little firm but otherwise very nice to the touch.
This smoke was very nicely constructed. It had a nice open draw and burned evenly and without a hint of heat. The light ash grew long and I became cautious and let it fall over the ash tray before it was absolutely necessary.
Flavor was interesting. The cigar started out with a nice citrusy flavor which carried through the first third. The second part of the cigar tasted spicy but not strong or overwhelming. In the final third it mellowed out to almost a creamy flavor with mild hints of spice. Overall , I’d call this a mild to medium or ‘lunch’ cigar.
At around $8.00 per stick this is a reasonable value. For one hour and forty minutes of enjoyment I’d recommend it.
