AKA Hybrid – Nothing to Scoff At
AKA is a tobacco company based in Texas. The initials stand for American Kick Ass. That tells you a lot about the sticks. They intend to take it to you delivering great cigars. It’s a refreshing take on the industry where they are right in your face. Still, the cigar has to speak for itself.
When I first looked at my stick I was impressed. It had a toothy feel to the medium brown wrapper. It also had a nice sheen and oily finish. The cigar punched and lit without incident. The stick produced an abundance of smoke.
The construction of my cigar was fine. The draw was open. The burn was even and tight. And, the light grey ash was uneventful. In reality I don’t remember the ash but my notes tell me it was ok. I’m sure that means it was neither remarkably long or unusual in any way.
The cigar is loaded with flavor. If you are looking for complexity in a cigar, look no further than this stick. From chocolate and mocha creaminess in the opening notes through a nuttiness with hints of cinnamon in the middle to vanilla and nutmeg int he final section this cigar has flavor for everyone. It is a medium bodied or ‘lunch’ cigar that but for a bit of spiciness would be rated as a more mild cigar. The after taste, not unpleasant lingers.
At around $7.50 it is a little beyond what I’m looking for in a daily smoke. But, with its complex but milder flavors, it might be a great special smoke for someone who doesn’t like a fuller bodied smoke.
