Avenutro – A Nice Smoke

Aventura BarrancoI had been eyeing this stick for some time, wondering when I would get a chance to try it.  When it finally rose to the top of the list, I was happy.  A beautiful looking cigar it is two toned with a light wrapper has a maduro wrapped tip at the head and foot.  I have never heard of this brand, and I’m not sure if anyone else has either.  An internet search reveals nothing about this cigar except a couple of short reviews.  While I seem to have information on two other cigars by this company, I have never seen them at any retail shop nor are they available easily on line.

This stick clipped easily and lit without a problem.  It produced a nice volume of smoke with a pleasant aroma.  I was smoking outside at a hotel, where I am always concerned that someone will object to my smoke.  In this case, I had a nice older woman tell me it reminded her of her father.

The cigar had an open draw.  It burned evenly holding a tight edge.  The medium grey ash grew to almost half of the length of the cigar.  People watching were impressed.  For some reason I always have better results in keeping an ash in a shape like this.  I’m sure it’s physics, but I’m just a cigar smoker.

Most cigars have a slightly bitter taste to the first few puffs and I won’t even think about those puffs when I consider a review.  This smoke started sweet, but not in a cloying way.  As we move to the second third, the sweetness had mellowed into a nice chocolate flavor, balanced by a leathery note or two.  The final third was more of the same.  All in all, this was a cool burning medium bodied or ‘lunch’ cigar.

Value is hard to determine for this cigar.  As hard as I tried I couldn’t find anyone who sold it.  I liked this stick and thought it was a nice cigar that could be shared after dinner.  If it was available for less than $6. I would recommend picking some up.
