Berger & Argenti Something Unique and Rare

Berger & Argenti EntubarEvery once in a while you see something that you have never seen before.  Even if you have seen everything in your 40+ years of cigar smoking.  That was the case when I was introduced to the Berger & Argenti line of cigars at TPE in Las Vegas.

Entubar endWhen you first look at this cigar you notice something sticking out the end – another cigar.  This second cigar is a revolutionary new idea that Berger & Argenti are making.  But they are also making these cigars in a very old way.  The entubar method is accomplished when they take each individual leaf and roll it up like a scroll, then bundle those leaves together.  This creates a great airflow and allows the flavors to mingle.  To the extreme, they use ligero tobacco, rolled entubar style, and then surround that with their Nicaraguan filler, also rolled entubar style, to create this cigar.

Berger and Argenti Entubar LabelWhen I first lit the cigar I fully torched the foot as instructed on the foot band.  The first few puffs were extremely sharp, perhaps I should have waited a few minutes for the cigar to settle down after all that fire.  But soon, the flavors mellowed a bit.  The primary flavors that I got were spice and nutmeg with perhaps a hint of coffee.

The cigar was lit and smoked for about 50 minutes.  It held a fair ash.  The cosntruction of the cigar is obviously quite complex but I felt the flavor could be better.

About two thirds of the way in the flavor changed dramatically.  Most of the spice was gone replaced by an almost sweet chocolate finish. This made me quite a happy camper and improved my opinion of the cigar.

At about $9.00 it is not an inexpensive cigar, but for its unusualness, it’s probably worth a try.
