Cain F Lancero – A Nice Smoke
So let me start out by saying this is not my typical smoke. I have never really been a thin cigar guy and, I expect to continue to prefer a fatter cigar. Nevertheless, being first and foremost a ‘cigar guy’, I like all kinds of sticks. This is an interesting shape. The Lancero used to be very popular years ago, but has waned in popularity recently. However, there has been a resurgence in older shaped cigars. The lancero is just one of those shapes. This particular smoke, the Cain F was originally part of the Studio Tobac event sampler, but I have heard that it is now available, albeit scarce, by itself.
When you first take this beauty out of the tube, you are struck by a very nice looking stick. It is long an elegant with it’s nice medium brown wrapper. I punched the end of the cigar and it lit easily. The draw was open and it provided a nice smoke.
The flavor profile was very much similar to the other Cain F shapes. That is to say, spicy and medium to full bodied. I did not find the cigar heavy at all. During the first third of the smoke there were lots of earthy woodsy tones to go with the spice and is it progressed the earthiness recede to be replaced by a sweetness or burn caramel flavor. Spice was predominant in the final third.
As far as construction is concerned, I was impressed. The cigar burned evenly and held an ash much longer than I expected. More importantly as the cigar burned I found that it did not get too hot. As we all know, the larger ring gauges burn cooler than the lancero and other narrower shapes, but this in no way became hot. Is that a result of superior construction or flavor, I don’t know. But, it’s definitely a plus.
At a little over $7, this isn’t a bargain stick. But, for something that’s scarce and interesting it’s a reasonable buy. Enjoy.
