Cusano 18 – A Rich Smooth Smoke

Cusano 18This seems to be a Cusano week.  The second Cusano cigar I took out of the humidor is the Cusano 18 robusto.  The 18 indicates that the filler tobacco has been aged for a whopping 18 years.

When I first look at the cigar it is a nice medium brown smooth straight sided cigar.  It punches easily and lights without problem.  The aroma is earthy and a bit sweet.

Flavor in cigars comes predominantly from the wrapper of the stick and this baby has two wrappers, both Connecticut shade.  This tobacco is known for its smooth silky flavor and this cigar lives up that that billing.  The second wrapper makes the flavor that much more notable.  After a few minutes of burn, the flavor settles into a creaminess but with just a hint of spice.  There is nothing overpowering in this stick and it is a mild to medium smoke.  It produces a reasonable amount of clean wispy smoke, but once again, is not overpowering.  As I continue to smoke the flavors remain pretty consistent.  Int he final third, the spice seems to recede and there is a mild mocha flavor.

The cigar burns evenly and with a nice ash.  There are no flaws and a clean uninterrupted cigar experience is just the right note for a new smoker or someone who likes a mil to medium stick.

At just around $4.o0 this cigar provides nice value and everyone should find a place in their humidor for some of these sticks.
