Dissident Bloc is Just OK
Boutique cigar operations sometimes drive change in the industry as their innovations can be successful enough to generate copying by the other industry players. Dissident Cigars is a boutique operation that is a bit beyond the fringe in their marketing so I don’t expect any copycatting there. I sampled their Bloc cigar, a 6 ¼ X 52 toro that wraps a Habano Jalapa leaf around a double Jalapa binder and Mexican filler. The bloc is box pressed and average looking in appearance.
The aroma was earth and wood and this carried into the flavors when the Bloc was lit. By the middle of the cigar, the flavor profile included coffee and a hint of leather. There was a little too much resistance in the draw and the smoke volume was below average. The ash was average.
It took an hour and 20 minutes to smoke the mild to medium bodied Bloc and it had no aftertaste. With an SRP of $10, I don’t consider the Bloc a value offering and give it a rating of 2.5 out of 5 – just OK, and probably not being copied.
