Dona Flor – The Brazilian Bombshell
When I took this stick for the humidor, I knew less than nothing about it. As a matter of fact, before doing any research this article had an entirely different headline, since I thought the cigar was a cheap product, without any importance. Instead, I find out there is a great story and a wonderful cigar.
Dona Flor , from the movie in the 1970s, is the story of a Brazilian woman who marries for love and passion and when her husband dies, remarries for companionship, only to find the ghost of her first husband making fun of her. It is a pssionate sensual story of love. This line of cigars are Brazilian puros and have been named for this story.
The cigar has a nice wrapper and a medium brown color. Before lighting it smells like, well, a cigar. It punches without problem and lights easily.
The first flavors of the cigar are somewhat sweet with a soft bit to them. As the stick progresses I think it is a rich medium bodied smoke without a lot of complexity, but a woodsy, earthy flavor. I never find any bitterness in the taste and as the cigar is coming to a close I remark to my companion that I liked this cigar and found it quite enjoyable.
The cigar is fairly well constructed. it burned evenly despite some pinholes in the wrapper. The ash was nice and had a mixed grey color.
At around $5 per stick, it is in a nice price category. If you are looking for a dependable smoke with a semi-sweet flavor, this could be the ticket.
