Guillermo Leon Signature Indeed

Guillermo Leon is the man behind La Aurora cigars and a fifth generation cigar maker.  A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to sit down with the assistant director of marketing for his company, Miami Cigar and Company.  When asked what his favorite was he pointed to this line.  Yesterday, I enjoyed this nice cigar as well.

The Guillermo Leon Signature line, a part of La Aurora is an interesting blend of tobacco.  Unlike the many puros I have smoked recently this has tobacco from many nations.  The wrapper is Ecudoran, the binder from the Dominican and Cameroon, and filler from 3 different countries.  This creates a complex taste thta adds up to a very rich but medium bodied smoke.

When I first inspect the cigar it looks very nice.  It is well constructed and without obvious flaw.  It lights easily and draws well.  The first few puffs are noncommittal and I’m not sure what to think.  But then the cigar opens up.

About a third of the way in the cigar is exhibiting many flavors at once.  I am tasty an earthiness but not quite mushroom and a spiciness like nutmeg.  I can’t seem to put my finger on what I’m tasting.  It’s elusive as the flavors come and go with different flavors predominant for a few minutes.  Finally, I have hit upon what I think it tastes like.  My aha moment is the chicory spiced coffee from Cafe du Monde in New Orleans.  A complex peppery coffee flavor tempered by a cedar and earthen note best describes this stick.  The taste lingers, although not unpleasantly.

At $7.50 per stick you get a lot for your money.  Others that I have tasted provide less flavor for more money so that makes this a good value.
