Humidores Dominicanos reincarnates Faraon Tutankamon
Humidores Dominicanos registered to do business in Florida in the middle of 2013. Sometime later Humidores launched a brand called Cigar Factory where each of the blends was named after a Pharaoh and offered in various sizes. I first noticed them at the 2014 IPCPR where they gave me three blends to review – Tutankamon, Ramses and Esfinge.
The Faraon Tutankamon was a 6 X 50 toro that had a filler blend of Honduras, USA, Nicaraguan and Dominican Republic tobaccos. The binder was USA Habano and all of this was wrapped by a USA Connecticut Broadleaf maduro. The appearance was nice with a dark wrapper that had a very slight oily sheen. The main band used a small tab to allow for easy removal and the cigar was firm at the cap and soft at the foot.
The toro had excellent smoke volume but the draw was a little rough. The ash was very good and the initial flavor was pepper with an aftertaste of nuts. Later, coffee and cocoa flavors entered the mix and the wrapper delivered the sweetness I expect from a maduro. The strength of the toro was medium and it took an hour to smoke. The SRP for the toro is $8.1 but I found it on line for about 10% less. I consider the Tutankamon to be the best of the 3 blends, although the Esfinge is mild enough to be a good starter cigar. I give the Faraon Tutankamon a rating 3.5 out of 5.
