Invite This Torano Exodus In!

The Cuban Revolution in 1959 lead to decades of emigration, primarily into the US, including the Torano family. To commemorate this life changing event Torano created its well-known Exodus 1959 series of boutique cigars and for 2013 the Exodus 1959 was labeled the Finite. The Finites are Nicaraguan puros and to provide for flavor complexity and balance, tobaccos from 4 different regions of Nicaragua are used. The filler is a blend from Esteli, Condega and Ometepe while the binder is Jalapa and the wrapper a Jalapa Habano-seed. Although both the binder and wrapper come from the Jalapa region, Torano’s literature explains that the wrapper is shade-grown while the binder is an early picked sun grown seco providing a “balanced character”. Well, the proof is in the tasting.

Torano provided me with a robusto (4 7/8 X 52) Finite to test. The cigar felt as good as it looked. No soft spots or heavy veins and a nice dark shade to the cigar. The draw was good, not great, but the smoke output was exceptional. The initial flavor was peppery but quickly changed to cream and nuts. There was a slight sweetness to it and the finish was of cedar and leather. This was a lot of flavor in the 1 hour I took to smoke the cigar. The ash was beautiful and I consider the cigar to be on the full side of medium bodied.

Torano states that it named this series “Finite” because of the limited availability of the tobaccos used. They expect to be limited to about 75,000 cigars total for all three sizes in the 2013 series. What strikes me is that the symbol used for the Finite series (see the foot band) is known as the symbol for infinity – a contradiction? In any case the cigar was attractive, flavorful well-constructed and worth having again. The SRP is $8 to $9, a decent value for a limited cigar. I rate it a 4.5 out of 5 overall.
