Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970

Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970Joya de Nicaragua is a famed brand of 40 years ago.  It used to make a very nice line of cigars.  But, with upheaval in the country and the destruction of the original factory quality had descended.  In order to regain some of the lost glory, they produced the Antano 1970 line.  This line is billed as being robust and flavorful.

Upon close examination, the cigar looked great.  It has a nice finish and the cap was so nicely done that it deserved this special mention.  It had a wonderful feel in texture but seemed to be rolled a little tight.  I particularly noticed this when I punched an opening in the head of the cigar.  Despite the feel, it lit easily and drew well from the outset.

Antano 1970 ashI was expecting more flavor from this stick.  It had a consistent spice, but was not overpowering.  I smoked this cigar early in the afternoon and was not overwhelmed with power.  It seemed about just right to me.  I would call it a medium body or lunch cigar.

Most of the tones were earthen and woody.  They never really varied through the entire cigar.  As the cigar burned it remained consistent in flavor and strength until the last few minutes.

Antano 1970 at its finishMy final thoughts on the cigar were not bad, rather they were bland.  It certainly was not a bad cigar, nor was it a great cigar.  I was a little disappointed that it was not more flavorful.  On balance, if you want a nice hour of smoking pleasure without much work, this cigar may find a place in your humidor.
