Kings Cigars Has an Improved Baron
Kings Cigars began in 2010 but appears to have released their first cigars to much success at the 2013 IPCPR. In the summer of 2014 I reviewed their Baron 5 X 52 robusto and rated it an overall 3.5 out of 5. In 2015 Kings Cigars indicated to me that they adjusted the blend of the Baron and provided me with another sample.
The re-blended Baron has the same Connecticut Ecuador wrapper but the binder is now not identified where it used to be a Nicaraguan Habano. Conversely, the filler is now identified as Viso and Seco Jalapa with Esteli Seco while the earlier filler was undisclosed.
The new Baron’s appearance is very similar but this time there were no hard spots. The smoke volume is even better and creamier than before. The flavor profile is straw and grass with a buttery under taste. The ash is much improved with an excellent shape and color. The draw remained easy and the burn quite even so the Baron has above average construction. The literature on the Baron indicates a medium-full body but I found it to be closer to medium than full.
It took an hour to smoke this blend that has improved its construction and overall experience while keeping its price between $7.10 and $7.50. The new Baron impressed me enough to raise the overall rating from 3.5 to 4 out of 5.
