Kuuts Fires Up the Zapata
Kuuts has their cigar factory in the Danli region of the Honduras where they make their Kuuts Nicaraguan, Placeres, Miro and Zapata Cigars. Although Kuuts has been selling in Europe for a long time, they entered the US market in 2013. I previously reviewed the Miro (not my favorite) and the Placeres Reserva (a good cigar at a good price). At the 2014 IPCPR Kuuts also gave me a Tabacalera Zapata 5 X 50 to review. The Zapata comes in 5 sizes and has a Connecticut Oscuro Honduran wrapper around a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan/Honduran/San Andres filler.
The Zapata was firm to the touch and dark in color. The cap was solid and the aroma earthy. The draw was even for the entire hour it took to smoke. The burn was always even and no relights were required. The ash was an unblemished silver/grey that supported very good construction and blending. The smoke volume was average and the strength was mild to low medium. Flavor profile started with earth and leather but the final third included wood and cream.
The SRP for the Zapata is around $6 but I found it for a little less on the internet. At that price you get a milder cigar with excellent construction and average flavor. I consider this cigar to be equal to the Placeres but aimed at smokers who appreciate milder tastes, perhaps earlier in the day or before any meal. I rate the Zapata a 4 out of 5.
