Kuuts Has a Winner With the Placeres Reserva
Kuuts has their cigar factory in the Danli region of the Honduras where they make their Kuuts Nicaraguan, Placeres, Miro and Zapata brands. Although Kuuts has been selling in Europe for a long time, they entered the US market in 2013. At the 2014 IPCPR Kuuts gave me a Placeres Reserva 6 X 54 Colosos to review. The Placeres brand comes in 5 sizes and has a Habano Jalapa wrapper around a Costa Rican binder and Nicaraguan/Honduran filler.
The Colosos is box pressed and had a very dark wrapper that presented a nice background for the elaborate band. The feel was fine and there were no apparent imperfections. The smoke volume was good, as was the ash and the draw was average. However the flavor was above average with coffee and cream coming on fairly strong with some under taste of sweetness. Later the flavor profile increased to pepper and spice. The first half was mild but the second half turned to the strong end of medium. It took an hour and 5 minutes to smoke and the only criticism I have is some bitterness at the very end and the cap loosened up, perhaps due to my punch.
I previously reviewed the Miro and I find the Placers Colosos to be far superior. I found the Colosos on line for about $6 and consider this to be good value. I give the Placeres Reserva Colosos an overall rating of 4 out of 5.
