La Flor Dominica Diademas Duo

Diademas Duo, MaduroToday was a great pool day in southwest Florida.  My beloved Red Sox (not easy to watch this year) had a matinee at Wrigley Field against the Cubbies and I was looking for a long cigar to smoke.  When I opened the humidor I found this beauty from Litto Gomez.  Diademas is a figurado shape, this one with a nipple tip, widening out to about a 50 ring gauge and then slowly tapering to the head fo the cigar.  It smoked for about an hour and half of pleasure, despite a 3-0 loss.

Gomez, not only makes cigars, but also grows tobacco on his farm in the Dominican Republic.  He ages and cures his tobacco and makes some great cigars.  I have been smoking his El Jocko for years and his double ligero chisel tip is the only cigar ever to put me on my ass.

Diademas Duo CoffinThis cigar is a beautiful stick.  it comes in a box of two, one natural and the other maduro.  Today’s smoke was the maduro, wrapped with a nice veiny wrapper.  I carefully took it from its nice wooden coffin, clipped the top and lit it easily.  It drew well and produced nice smoke.

This cigar was a nice medium bodied smoke with cedar and grassy flavors.  As it moved toward its middle third I got a little more spice, with hints of pepper.  As it drew to a close, I found it to be getting a bit hot, as expected since the cigar narrows as you smoke.  At no time did I find the spice overpowering, but rather it was a nice interesting flavor.

You can tell that a cigar is well made when it burns evenly with a nice tight edge for an hour and a half.  It never once went out despite my smoking in the pool and paying little if any attention for stretches of five minutes at a time.

This cigar is not cheap.  At $15.00 it is more than I would ordinarily spend, but in some ways it was like smoking two cigars because of its size.  If you think if it in that way it becomes much more affordable.

This was my second diademas and I enjoyed it thoroughly.  I wish I had another coffin, and I might have to break down and buy one.  If you spot one of these rarities, don’t let it pass you by.
