Mooch Torpedo

Berger & Argenti Mooch LollThe other night I came across an interesting cigar in the humidor.  It was a light colored torpedo, with a nondescript band.  But, it was interesting because of the foot band.  This band, as can be seen in the photos, is large and has a twisted bottom.  The band carries a headline about the Kennedy embargo of Cuban tobacco.  Interesting in that it called for my attention.

Notwithstanding the foot band, this turned out to be a serious smoke.  Upon inspection it has a nice clear wrapper that gave off a floral smell.  It lit easily, but the wrappere cracked slightly at the foot.  I was surprised as it had been well humidified since its arrival.  Fortunately, that didn’t negatively imapct the cigar in any way.

The starting taste of the cigar was creamy and mellow.  About 15 minutes in teh first ash fell, perhaps a bit premature due to the cracked wrapper.  The flavor was still mild with a floral note added to the cream.  It burned evenly throughout its smoking duration of just around an hour.

About halfway into the cigar a mild peppery flavor emerged.  This gave it just the nudge it need to become, in my opinion, a medium bodied cigar.

Mooch Loll halfwayWhile the flavors of this cigar were never bold and didn’t really vary much, for the price this is a great cigar.  It sells for around $4.50 and gives you a very pleasant hour plus.  I could easily see this as a regular in the humidor of anyone who likes mild to medium cigars.  It burns evenly, draws well is a great value.  What more could you want from a cigar?

Actually, it gives you one more advantage.  This is a great cigar to give to a casual smoker.  We all have friends and acquaintances that occasionally smoke.  This cigar will please them when they ‘Mooch’ it, and go easy on your budget as well.

While I don’t know much about this producer, I’m hoping to find out more in the future.  If other cigars are like this one they’ll all be winners.
