A Sad Note

Rolando Reyes, Sr. passed away last week at the age of 89.  Born in Cuba in 1924 he was a lifelong ‘cigar guy’ starting the ‘Los Aliados’ brand in Cuba.  When the factory was nationalized he refused to work and was sent out to pick rice as manual labor.  He is best known for his Puros Indios brand which is run by his grandson today.  Hailed as a mentor and icon of the indusrty he will be sorely missed.

New Cigars

La Palina has just released a line extension to their brand.  The “Kill Bill” is a petite corona, 4 1/4 x 40.  While this flies in the face of prevailing trends towards larger shapes, La Palina president and founder, Bill Paley says this is just the right size for my drive home.  I’m looking forward to my next drive as soon as I can give one of these a try.

If you know of any new cigars, please send the info to us at press@cigarmayven.com.

CigarMayven Miami

For the past couple of months whenever I have business in Miami, I find a little extra time to visit the cigar manufacturers.  Each of these visits has been a treat.  They are usually about an hour and the opportunity to learn about the cigars and their producers as well as get the inside news on what is to come.  There is also some good cigar smoking involved.  Why do I tell you this?  Well, frankly, to make you jealous.  But then that wouldn’t be fair.  So, as a heads up, we are looking for a date this fall when we will have an event called CigarMayven Miami where you will have the opportunity to join others on a guided tour and visit to several of the Miami based cigar producers.  Details and dates for the vent are still a ways off, but start thinking about your plans to attend this fun event.
