Oceano Pacific – a Big Cigar From La Sirena
La Sirena Cigars, owned and operated by Arielle Ditkowich, has 4 blends until mid-2014 when it acquired Old School Cigars, known for its Jaxx and Stixx lines. La Sirena appeared at the 2014 IPCPR and provided us with an Oceano Pacific Gran Toro that measured a nice 6 X 65 for testing.
The Oceano series has Dominican Criollo Viso and Ligero along with Nicaraguan Viso tobaccos for fillers. The binder is Dominican Criollo, all wrapped by a Dominican Habano. With its large ring gauge, the Pacific looked like a serious cigar. It had a firm feel and slightly dark coloring with a woodsy pre-light aroma.
The initial flavors were spice and wood with very little sweet under taste. Soon after lighting, pepper replaces the spice and dominates for the balance of the smoke. Towards the end cocoa and coffee notes softened the pepper. The smoke volume was average, as was the draw and ash. Unfortunately the burn was slightly uneven so some touching up was required.
The Pacific is a good looking, full bodied cigar with an interesting taste profile. It took an hour and a half to smoke and at prices that ranged from $9.40 to $7.50 the Pacific comes close to a value at the lower end of the range. We rate the Pacific a 3.5 out of 5.
