Padilla’s La Pilar Really Holds Up
Padilla Cigar Company is a long time boutique and premium cigar producer. At the 2015 IPCPR in New Orleans Padilla launched a series called La Pilar (a “column” or “pillar”) No. 4 in 3 sizes. Padilla gave me 5 X 50 robusto to review. The robusto has a filler blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos with a Nicaraguan binder, all wrapped by an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro, although the oscuro to me was closer in color to a Maduro. This robusto was one of the better looking box pressed cigars .
The robusto had an even burn with a good ash, no relights were necessary. The draw and smoke volume were both above average. The oscuro delivered a small amount of sweetness and the flavor profile started out with white pepper that later included burnt oak and leather with little aftertaste. The robusto is not a complex cigar and was medium to full bodied. I spent an hour smoking the cigar and with an SRP of $5.50, this robusto represents good value for the smoking delivered. I rate the robusto a 4 out of 5.
