Punch Prince Consort
Has anyone ever been to Cigar Camp? Well, that the first place I smoked one of these babies. About 15 years ago I was travelling in the Pittsburgh area and someone told me about a cigar shop that had this thing called Cigar Camp on the weekends. Well, I went and found Mark Adams of Blooms tobacco. It was a great shop filled with sofas and deep chairs, plenty to munch on and of course, beverages. When Mark asked what I liked to smoke I asked for a recommendation. This is what he recommended.
In the years since, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t have a few of these cigars in my humidor. With a beautiful dark wrapper, the cigar has a great appearance. To me it is always a sign of something good to come.
For this smoke, I was enjoying an afternoon of reading. This cigar is a full hour and twenty minutes of joy. Upon lighting, you get a nice even draw. Flavors are of English leather and a mild spice. I think of this as a medium bodied cigar, mellow with lots of flavor. About 2o minutes into the smoke, it has cooled down a bit and I get a little bit of fruitiness, almost like a port. The draw is nice and easy and the burn is quite even. Frequently when I am reading I will lose the light on my cigar. But, this kept an even burn throughout.
As we got to the midpoint of the cigar, it got just a bit hotter and somewhat spicier. I tasted a hint of Mexican chocolate.
The cigar lasted me 1 hour and 20 minutes, smoked just beyond the band. A beautiful, flavorful cigar, well built, and a great value.
The cigar is from the Grand Cru Series.
