Punch Uppercut – An Uppercut without Punch
If memory serves I have had one of these cigars a few years ago but didn’t have a real recollection before unwrapping this one. Uppercut, a sub brand under the Punch line is made using tobacco from the Ometepe region of Nicaragua that for a time was exclusive to General Cigar, the makers of Punch. The region has very rich soil resulting from the volcanic activity in the area. General made this cigar to be an exclusive up market stick.
The cigar has a nice appearance with two bands. The foot band indicates that tobacco is from the Ometepe region of Nicaragua but the cigar is made in Honduras. The cigar lit easily and drew well.
I was expecting a full bodied cigar with lots of flavor, what I got was smoke and spice. I thought that the taste was singular and not particularly pleasant. It was just a hot flavorless stick. As much as I looked for something to like about this smoke, I couldn’t find it. Finally after two thirds of the cigar was done, the heat dissipated. Alas, this was because the cigar had gone out. I didn’t light it again. To be fair, I would smoke another of these if it was given to me, and I will review again if there is some change.
One of the most important things about a cigar is value. I don’t like overpaying for something. And, with this stick, there is no value.
