Reserva Dorada
When I pulled this stick from the humidor I knew nothing about it. A little bit of research turned up some info. This is a bundle stick, coming in at less than $50 for a bundle of 25. It is made by MJ Frias who is known for flavored cigars. Nevertheless, I examined and reviewed this stick before knowing any of this info. Sometimes it’s best to just smoke a cigar and then find out about it. That way you are not influenced by preconceived notions. This cigar is well packed and shows a nice triple cap.
The cigar has a pleasing golden brown color and shows well. As it was a torpedo shape I clipped the end. It lit without a problem and produced nice smoke.
The draw was open and the cigar held a nice ash. The ash dropped consistently before growing to one inch.
Flavor on the stick was interesting. It started out grassy with notes of straw and picked up in the same vein as I continued to smoke. At the midpoint I thought it was earthy and finally I felt tones of cedar and leather. The cigar had a short finish. I consider it a medium bodied or ‘lunch’ cigar but still on the mild side without much pepper or spice.
My overall thoughts and tasting notes indicated ‘surprisingly nice’ , and ‘how much?’ When I found out that this was a bundle cigar, I was impressed. If you are looking for a nice, pleasant stick that you can smoke every day, this is just the ticket. It won’t break the bank and it won’t taste bad. That’s hard to find. Is this cigar a great cigar? No. But it certainly fills it’s spot with distinction.
