San Lantano Oval an Interesting Shape and a Nice Cigar
This afternoon/evening I had a cigar smoking guest join me. He had recently seen the new blog and didn’t know that I was a CigarMayven. When he asked if I could give him some help, I invited him to join me for a late afternoon smoke. I foraged in the humidor and came up with something nice for him to smoke and something interesting, the San Lantano Oval Corona for me.
When first examining this cigar you notice its shape. It isn’t shaped like a traditional cigar, nor is it box pressed. it really does seem, well, oval. It has a dark wrapper, Habano 2000, aged at least 4 years and grown in Nicaragua. That provides a nice oily and smooth touch.
The cigar lit easily and drew well. It held a nice ash of salt and pepper variety, and burned quite evenly except for one small dark spot. That didn’t take away form a nice flavor profile.
San Lantano cigars are made by third generation cigar maker A.J. Fernandez who took his Cuban learned skills and applied them to his factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. Not only does he closely supervise the production of all of his cigars but he also use special secret Fernandez blends in his filler to achieve a great flavor and smoke.
This cigar might have been small and odd in stature, but it was big in flavor. While I would think of this as a lunch cigar, that is medium bodied, many would think it was a bit stronger. It had spice and nuttiness through the entire cigar. And that spice wasn’t pepper making it a very flavorful but not overpowering cigar.
At a little over $7. per stick this isn’t an inexpensive cigar. But, if you are looking for a nice 45 minutes of medium to full flavor you won’t go wrong with this stick.
