The Southern by Rebellious Cigars

Tobacco has a long and economically important history in our original 13 colonies from before our rebellion from England through to today.  The original North American natives were cultivating tobacco before the European settlers arrived.  The industry continues to innovate from those early beginnings. A relatively new cigar company, Rebellious Cigars from Greenville South Carolina, recently introduced their Signature Series of Habano cigars in sizes ranging from 5X50 to 6X60.  I had the pleasure of testing the midsize entry, The Southern, a 6X50 attractive cigar made for Rebellious by Tarano.

The Southern’s construction was moderately firm and the pre-smoke aroma had hints of pepper and leaves in the fall. Lighting the stick was easy and the draw was moderate.  The preliminary hint of pepper taste was confirmed as it blended with spice and a hint of leather and cedar. The spice flavor grew as the cigar was smoked. The stick burned coolly throughout the 65 minute smoke and the flavor was always even.

As a cool burning, medium stick with an even, medium bodied flavor and little or no aftertaste this cigar lends itself to enjoyment before meals as it won’t interfere with the flavor of whatever you are eating. These Habano cigars have an Ecuadorian wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and a blend of Nicaraguan/Dominican fillers.  The retail price is a little over $8 and in my opinion it is worth it.
