Torano 1916, a Splendid Smoke
The name comes from the year the Torano family arrived in Cuba. And the wrapper from what was once a Spanish colony, pays homage to their Spanish roots. This is a very nice cigar, indeed.
When I first inspect my cigar I notice that it is wrapped in cedar. This gave it a very pleasant aroma. The cigar itself was veiny and I was concerned that it would be problematic when clipped. It cut fine and lit easily. The cigar produced a nice volume of cedary smoke.
The flavor of the stick was medium featuring lots of nuttiness with just a hint of spice. For most, this would be a ‘lunch’ cigar, but I found it quite mild. Regardless of where you place the cigar, while not overpowering there is definitely flavor. As the cigar progressed there was a sweet undertone to the smoke. Towards the end, I picked up a little more spice. Overall, the flavors of this cigar are gentle. I can see where many would enjoy this as an everyday cigar.
The cigar burned consistently holding a nice long ash. Despite a slightly brittle feel to the cigar (it had been well humidified), it never presented a problem.
At around $7. this is a medium priced cigar. There are a lot of cigars in this price range that don’t deliver what Torano does. They make a good looking, smelling, and tasting cigar each and every time. I can’t imagine a humidor that doesn’t include Torano cigars.
