Total Flame’s “Wild One” Cigar – the Movie is Better
The Wild One movie was made in 1953 and starred a young Marlon Brando as a biker gang leader causing trouble in small towns. The film became a cult classic and spread the image of outlaw bikers that lives through to today. Just look around at the millions of rebellious “outlaws” riding on our roads dressed like Marlon. The Russian bikers behind Total Flame named a cigar after this famous movie but, unfortunately, the stick will probably not become a classic.
The Wild One is a very dark cigar, using an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper around a Dominican Binder and Nicaraguan/Dominican fillers. The 5 X 50 robusto had a rough looking finish that fit in with the name. Continuing the Wild One theme, Total Flame used andullo tobacco in the filler. Andullo results from a process of compressing the tobacco in palm seed pods as part of the aging process. The andullo tobacco is most often seen in pipe and chewing tobacco; and now in a wild cigar.
The Wild One had a nice, creamy smoke with good volume and an easy draw. The ash was well formed and colored and burned evenly so it is well constructed. The flavor started out very earthy and shortly included slightly bitter coffee and some cream flavor. Peppery notes occurred throughout and the cigar jumped between medium bodied and full bodied. I spent an hour and 15 minutes smoking the Wild One and I find that construction is its best attribute (if you accept the visual appearance as part of the name), followed by appearance and then flavor. The SRP of about $11 comes in last and leads to an overall rating of 2.5 out of 5.
