The Triangle by Rebellious cigars
Rebellious Cigars was founded in 2011 in Greenville South Carolina with the stated purpose of “creating innovative brands reflecting the personalities and interests” of the founders. After previously launching their Signature Series of Habano cigars, Rebellious launched in April 3013 their Submission Series of Maduro cigars in 5 X 50 to 6 X 60 sizes. Tarano makes all the cigars for Rebellious. Honoring the passions and interest of the founders, the Submission Series names – Triangle, Kimura and Guillotine – come from mixed martial arts holds. Fortunately they did not select “choke” as a cigar name.
The Submission cigars use a Nicaraguan wrapper, Ecuadorian binder and a filler blend of Nicaraguan, Dominican Republic and Columbian tobaccos. Rebellious gave me a nice looking Triangle 5 X 50 for testing. Out of curiosity, before smoking the stick I looked up the definition of the triangle submission hold in Wikipedia and learned that it is
“a type of figure four chokehold which strangles the opponent by encircling the opponent’s neck and one arm with the legs in a configuration similar to the shape of a triangle. The technique is a type of lateral vascular restraint that constricts the blood flow from the carotid arteries to the brain.”
I smoked the cigar sitting straight up and left the triangle configuration to the professionals. Besides, it took a pleasant hour and 5 minutes to enjoy the smoke.
The Triangle’s construction was very firm without any blemishes. Lighting the stick was easy and the draw was fine. The first draws gave a taste of spice with some cedar and leather and a very small hint of sweetness but I could not pin down the flavor. After the first third the spice changed into a growing pepper taste that lasted to the end and crowded out the other flavors. The stick was good throughout with no tar or oils at the end. The ash even in color and shape and the entire burn was cool. This cigar was medium to full bodied in flavor with some aftertaste so I would have it after eating. At a little over $8 per stick, I consider this a moderate value.
